Kelly joined the Lafayette faculty in 2005. His research focuses on finance and he teaches courses in investments, derivatives, and corporate finance.

From 1998-2004 he was a founding partner of Onyx Capital Management, LLC, an investment management firm with a primary focus on volatility-related strategies. He led the firm’s convertible bond-related activities, both domestically and internationally.

From 1992 to 1998, Kelly was a member of J.P. Morgan’s Equity Derivatives Group and built the firm’s global equity derivative research effort, producing and directing all of its output regarding convertible securities and trade strategies motivated by corporate actions. In 1992 he helped design and develop J.P. Morgan’s Emerging Markets Bond Index.
